The Bridge for Resilience, Empowerment, and Development Organization (BREDO) is a non-profit humanitarian and development Organization dedicated to saving lives and building safer, more resilient urban communities across Pakistan established in Karachi, the organization works to identify, assess, and mitigate hazards in all sectors, including roads, buildings, housing complexes, drainage systems, water channels, and public infrastructure. Between 2022 and 2025, Karachi recorded alarming rates of road and infrastructure-related accidents. In 2023 alone, more than 1,400 people lost their lives, and over 18,000 were injured. In 2024, nearly 9,000 accidents claimed 771 lives and left 8,174 people wounded.
These losses are not merely the result of unsafe driving; they reflect the city’s broader structural vulnerabilities, open manholes, unprotected drainage lines, weak construction, poor road maintenance, and the absence of timely hazard identification and mitigation. Our mission is clear: to protect lives, strengthen communities, and prepare people for danger before disaster strikes. We believe that when one person in a community becomes a trained rescuer and local leader, that individual can safeguard the entire neighborhood.
Our team includes structural engineers, disaster risk experts, certified rescuers, urban planners, and community mobilizers who work side by side with residents to identify risks, design safer systems, and promote sustainable recovery. We particularly focus on empowering women, girls, and persons with disabilities, groups disproportionately affected by disasters due to limited mobility, social exclusion, and lack of access to safety information.
We are ready, we guide, we train, and we stand with communities before, during, and after disaster strikes. Every life is precious, and protecting it is our purpose. We teach people how to recognize danger before it becomes disaster, how to respond when emergencies occur, and how to recover with dignity once they end. For BREDO, resilience means being prepared, being aware, and never leaving anyone behind.
Working in close collaboration with government departments, municipal authorities, and community institutions, BREDO strengthens preparedness and risk management systems through field assessments, capacity-building programs, and public awareness initiatives. By integrating engineering expertise with community engagement, we transform preparedness into progress, making cities, workplaces, and neighborhoods safer, more resilient, and better equipped to face emergencies and climate-induced challenges.
To build safer, stronger, and more inclusive communities by providing individuals with the skills, systems, and opportunities needed to prevent, respond to, and recover from emergencies. We strive to turn awareness into action, transforming ordinary citizens into trained, confident, and capable responders.
A resilient Pakistan where every citizen is prepared, every woman is empowered, and every community is connected to systems of safety, inclusion, and development. We envision Karachi as a model city for urban resilience, gender leadership, and inclusive humanitarian innovation. To build safer, stronger, and more inclusive communities by providing individuals with the skills, systems, and opportunities needed to prevent, respond to, and recover from emergencies. We strive to turn awareness into action, transforming ordinary citizens into trained, confident, and capable responders.
