The Bridge for Resilience, Empowerment and Development Organization (BREDO) expresses deep concern and sorrow over the recent heavy traffic accident that occurred in Karachi, resulting in tragic loss of life and multiple injuries. As part of its ongoing commitment to community safety and sustainable urban development, BREDO calls for immediate and collective action to improve road safety awareness, particularly among motorbike riders and other vehicle drivers across the city.
Preliminary reports indicate that unsafe driving practices, speeding, and lack of adherence to traffic rules continue to contribute significantly to Karachi’s growing number of road incidents. Motorbikes, often used by working-class commuters and delivery personnel, remain among the most vulnerable on the road.
“Every life lost on our roads is a reminder that safety must never be an afterthought,” said Mr. Ali Sohaib, BREDO’s Founder and General Secretary. “We urge all citizens, whether riding a motorcycle or driving a car, to take responsibility not only for their own safety but for everyone sharing the road.”
BREDO emphasizes the following key safety messages for all road users:
| I | For Motorbike Riders | Always wear helmets, maintain safe speeds, and avoid weaving through traffic. Reflective gear and functioning lights are essential, especially at night. |
| II | For Car and Bus Drivers | Respect smaller vehicles and maintain adequate distance. Avoid sudden lane changes and never block motorbike lanes. |
| III | For All Road Users | Follow traffic signals, avoid distractions such as mobile phones, and remember that every act of care can save a life. |
BREDO is working closely with local authorities, traffic police, and community organizations to strengthen road safety campaigns, promote public education, and advocate for better traffic management systems in Karachi. The organization calls upon the media, civil society, and the private sector to join in promoting a culture of mutual respect and responsibility on the roads.
“Safe roads are a shared duty. From the most experienced driver to the newest motorbike rider, we must all do better,” added Mr. Ahmet, Director of Disaster Response and Training Operations. “Let this tragedy be a turning point, not just another headline.”
