BREDO continues to support communities in Karachi by strengthening preparedness for natural and urban hazards. Community-Based Early Warning Systems (EWS) are critical tools that enable residents to respond swiftly to floods, building risks, and other emergencies, minimizing harm and safeguarding lives.

Key Guidance for Residents:

Stay Alert to Local WarningsResidents should subscribe to official alerts from local authorities, NGOs, or community groups. Timely warnings through mobile notifications, sirens, or community volunteers help families take immediate protective action.
Understand Hazard SignalsCommunities are encouraged to learn the meaning of various alerts, such as flood level warnings, road closure notices, or structural risk advisories, so they can respond appropriately without delay.
Prepare Emergency KitsHouseholds should maintain a basic emergency kit containing mobile phones, identification, water, medications, and essential documents. This ensures readiness when early warning signals are received.
Coordinate with Neighbors and VolunteersLocal community networks and volunteers can assist vulnerable residents, including children, the elderly, and those with disabilities, in evacuating safely or reaching designated safe zones.
Follow Official InstructionsResidents should promptly follow guidance from local authorities, NGOs, or STG (Safe Temporary Gathering) points to ensure safe evacuation and access to medical or humanitarian support.

BREDO’s Commitment:
We are actively working with local communities, authorities, and partners to strengthen early warning systems, ensuring residents receive timely alerts and practical guidance. These initiatives contribute to safer, more resilient neighborhoods, aligning with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
